The Nuthatch & Tree Creeper

Nuthatch

Both these birds tend to creep along branches and up and down trunk of trees looking for insects, and they would normally build their nest in the crevice formed by loose bark or in a small hole in a tree.  This bird box is designed to be put on the trunk of a tree and to mimic this situation.

If the hole in the tree or nest box is too large, then both male and female nuthatches may reduce its dimeter by plastering mud around it.

Site the box on the south south east side of a tree over 3m above ground with clear flight path to entrance, and as always well away from bird feeders.

To open and clean out the box at the end of the year, remove the two screws holding the slate in place.  When replacing be careful not to over tighten the screws.
